Understanding Gender and Sexual Diversity Among Youth
We are excited to present a live training session with Dr. Natasha L. Poulopoulos, a leading expert in pediatric psychology, focused on equipping mental health providers with the tools and knowledge to effectively support LGBTQ+ youth. This training will cover essential strategies for creating affirming care environments, understanding gender and sexual diversity, and addressing the unique mental health needs of LGBTQ+ youth.
Learning Objectives
Upon completing the workshop, participants will be able to:
• Describe and differentiate between terminology relating to gender identity and sexual orientation.
• Describe minority stress theory as it applies to mental health disparities among LGBTQ+ youth.
• Articulate one affirming care approach clinicians can utilize to assess child and adolescent gender identity and sexual orientation safely.
• Identify two strategies that promote awareness and respect of sexual and gender diversity and establish an affirming environment for LGBTQ+ patients and families.
